Course Content

The goal of the EQUIP course is to train current and future academic QI faculty members to help academic departments and universities address the pressing need to develop capacity in QI. As such, the program not only covers advanced content around QI, but dives deeper into QI methodologies to make projects more likely to succeed, preparing participants to maximize their project’s impact and receive academic recognition for their work. 5 full day in-person sessions that uses a mix of didactic and interactive small group sessions and peer presentations. Designed to allow participants from outside Toronto to attend.

5 webinars in between the in-person sessions as project check points as well as the opportunity for faculty to provide distance coaching for QI project work and peers to learn from each other. We assign each participant a 1-on-1 faculty coach to provide guidance and support throughout the program to help them recognize and how to avoid common missteps.

Academic faculty seeking to more meaningfully integrate QI into their clinical work or scholarly activities.

Faculty members who have a role in operational QI work for their department or hospital and would like to develop advanced skills to increase their likelihood of success.

Our internationally-recognized faculty team are practicing clinicians and experts in the field of QI, whose members have a track record not only in executing QI projects successfully in an academic setting, but also produced publications in high-impact journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine¸ Academic Medicine, and BMJ Quality & Safety. Core faculty team members serve as the director or core faculty for various advanced QI training programs offered at UofT, including the first Masters of Science program in QIPS in Canada, a longitudinal certificate program in QI, as well as an innovative faculty-trainee co-learning model for faculty development in QI.

Beyond the University of Toronto, members of our core faculty team have made significant contributions to national and international faculty development programs in QIPS through collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Association of American Medical Colleges. Learn More

How to Apply
  1. An abbreviated academic CV – 5 page maximum
  2. A letter of support from a Sponsor (department head or chief, or program director for trainees) on official letterhead with their contact information
For faculty, the letter should confirm that the registrant has an active academic appointment or defined organizational role in QI.
For trainees, the letter should confirm that the registrant is on a clear track towards an academic appointment with a focus in QI.
All letters must also confirm that the registrant works or trains in an academic institution where they will carry out a QI project as part of this course.
